For my personal project, I decided to make 5 different instruction videos, each about learning how it is that one can hit a different golf shot. The 5 different golf shots were: straight, fade, draw, low and a high shot. The aims of the video were to teach people how it was that they can hit these shots. I chose to do this project, because I have been playing golf for around 3 years, and I love it. I am not an expert on any shots and I decided to use the personal project to try and get a better understanding and really learn how it was that I could hit each one of the shots. At the beginning of this project, I did not know how to hit a draw and fade and my technique for hitting the straight, high and low shot was not very good. This project has taught me how it is that I can properly hit the shots with the right technique and also how it is that I can express my understanding, to help others learn.
The research question that I set was: How can one manipulate their golf swing, stance and club face to make the golf ball have the desired flight? This question focuses on all the aspects that can affect how the ball will fly. From research conducted the main two factors that really affected how the ball would fly were the swing and the club face. Mainly the club face though. Since I am making a video, I decided that my global context would be personal and cultural expression. I decided to make this the global context, because it is in the name a personal expression. Through making this video, I am expressing my personal way of hitting these shots based on help of research as well. Along with that, golf is commonly seen as a 'man's' sport, when it is really just as much as man's sport as well as a 'woman's' sport. It only has the view because of history and being considered a sport for business. For this reason, being a female giving this instruction video, also fits into the personal and cultural expression context. My main reasons for really wanting to do this as a project are really just that I adore golf as a sport, as well as film editing and making (when I am not in the spotlight). Through this project, I have been able to get a better understanding of how I hit the shots correctly and I can now teach people how to hit the shot.
